Klang Nouveau
The New Concert Series as part of the
Jugendstil Collection of Ferdinand W. Neess
Ferdinand W. Neess had a deep appreciation for Jugendstil— for both the art and the music of this remarkable era.
His legacy includes the magnificent Jugendstil Collection, which he donated to the Museum Wiesbaden in 2019; the international flute competition established in his honor, held every two years;
and now: KLANG NOUVEAU
The new concert series, developed in collaboration with the Jugendstil Collection at the Museum Wiesbaden, offers a unique opportunity to experience and unite the music and art of the turn of the twentieth century.
The Museum Wiesbaden’s Jugendstil exhibition — one of the most significant Art Nouveau collections worldwide — provides a captivating setting for this exceptional series of concerts.

- Direction – Dzuna Kalnina

Twenty songs from Hugo Wolf’s Spanisches Liederbuch are presented as a love story with an open ending, partly interwoven with poems developed in collaboration with the artists and young adults.

The project invites students to engage freely, without assessment or academic pressure, with a genre that often remains unfamiliar to many young people.

Homage to Lili Boulanger
Text and music for piano, flute, and narrator
"Beneath the rising waters of dreams, My soul trembles, my soul trembles. And the moon shines into my heart, Immersed in the springs of dreams."(Maurice Maeterlinck, Reflets)
Lili Boulanger (1893–1918) is one of the most significant composers of French Impressionism. The daughter of a Russian countess and a French composer, and a student of Gabriel Fauré, she was the first woman ever to win the prestigious Prix de Rome — at the age of 19. She died at only 24.
The texts of this programme, sensitively recited by Viennese actor Michael Dangl, intertwine Lili Boulanger’s personal writings with literary voices from the artistic circles of Paris at the Fin de Siècle. In an artful dialogue with the music of flautist Maria Fedotova and pianist Cordula Hacke, word and sound merge into an atmospheric unity.
Music by:
Lili and Nadia Boulanger, Emile Naoumoff, Gabriel Fauré, Reynaldo HahnTexts by:
Marcel Proust, Maurice Maeterlinck, Blaise Pascal, Chiara Carminati- Flute – Maria Fedotova
